2011-2015. A practice in abstract landscape, synthetic realities, and motion. These begin in the non-objective and slowly allow structures and landscapes to form as layers are added. The process helps bring an amalgam of abstraction into the realm of space/place, linking subconscious with conscious. The work can be contrasted to other artists who apply an opposite method, producing landscape-to-abstraction work, which seeks to break down referenced imagery of the natural world into the abstract or semi-abstract. This can be understood as a reverse approach, having its root in a kind of “pure” abstraction, which subsequently builds into a final form that is approachable as a situated reality. Does reality introduce itself to us face-forward, or do we start the introductions from the paradigm of our own choosing.
