These paintings have had the entire thick paint layer peeled off a substrate as one, and then flipped over and permanently bonded to a prepared canvas. Mistakes and do-overs, erasures and repaints, scratching away the paint, smudging it off with turpentine… things that commonly happen within the practice of painting which are usually covered up, are all visible and celebrated. The end result perspective is inside-out, revealing what is hidden.
The work is enrobed in forms and colors that outline a central figure. A balanced piece with centralized red “face” and radiating purple lines. Movement frozen in time, produced through the inside-out process.
