The Story

Similar to a Greek “depas” style amphora, but predating all of them… this silver cup comes from a time when Europe was barely populated, but the civilizations that existed were legendary. Who knows who may have drunk from this cup? Mycenae, Minoan Crete and early Troy were sophisticated and well rooted kingdoms with technological advances that wouldn’t appear again for millennia. This cup shows off such well made, hard wearing creations to say the least. After around 42 centuries, it’s still intact and shining bright. I reproduced this artifacts likeness with dedicated care to preserve every scratch and ding that it has accumulated during its long journey through time.

1000 Years before the Trojan war, according to Dionysus of Halicarnassus, there existed a man named Dardanus. He was a traveller, conquerer, explorer… Dardanus was a figure out of the mythical shadows, but tied to names and places in such a solid way that it almost calls out from the past that he did in fact exist. Dardanus travelled to the region (then called Teucris) and was met by its extremely ancient king with welcoming arms. Later, Dardanus great grandson, Tros, inherited the kingdom for himself and named the entire region and people after him- Troas and Troy, respectively. Seven plus generations after Tros, Aeneas the famous king of Troy reigned, himself having knowledge of this ancient lineage, a successor of kings going back to that most remote age. 🪔
