The Story…

The Mycenaeans where the most ancient civilization in Greece, and figured prominently as the victors in the Trojan war from Homers Iliad. Although many ancient historians speak of them as such, and corroborate the Trojan Epic, the Mycenaeans were considered myth until 1874. When this tomb was discovered, it proved the Iliad was not just a story, but that these people existed and had much wealth... just like the epic describes. I chose these fragments over the gold artifacts and other fancy accoutrements because I think they more personally convey the symbolic perspectives and artistic choices that these artists made, while building this tomb for their king.
