Arch
I thought this little section of a larger piece deserved a print, as it’s heavily affected by atmospheric geological spaces.
The original work is: Arch 2018. Watercolor mineral pigments on puzzle-pieced arches cotton paper on panel, 36x48”.
An interrelated framework which debates the connection between heaven and earth. The top half of the work (shown in the print) discusses the metaphysical in terms of physical realism. The long standing view of western theology holds that the spiritual plane is a kind of abstraction that everything in this world is set apart from. The heavens, angels, higher realms, and the afterlife are all intangible and transcendent according to this very ethereal nature. Their incorporeality therefore separates this world entirely from the sacred, debasing it and removing its original awe. This work argues that the two can be understood as intertwined, more similar than different, offering a reconciliation of what reality is, in relation to the eternal.
